The Salt Lake
These years, drought is the main environmental crisis in Iran. In addition to the famous Urmia Lake, Many other Lakes are in danger and most of them are near my hometown, Shiraz. “Maharloo Lake” or as locals call it, “Salt Lake” was considered a suitable and valuable habitat for migratory birds and wild animals. However it is mostly dry today. The very beautiful pink hue in the water appearing in rainy seasons is because of “red tide” within the lake caused by the drought. These harmful red tides affect the species that their lives are attached to this lake. This beauty always mesmerizes me thinking how such a beautiful phenomenon could be at the same time so harmful. I have started documenting this Lake and its special condition more than two years ago. I have taken photos in different seasons and locations in this area.
